• India dispatched the first tranche of medical supplies and protective kits to the African Centre for Diseases Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) in response to the Ebola public health emergency.
• The World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) on 17 May under the International Health Regulations (IHR), 2005.
• Africa CDC officially declared the outbreak of the Bundibugyo strain Ebola virus disease affecting the DRC and Uganda as a Public Health Emergency of Continental Security (PHECS).
• On 22 May, the WHO IHR Emergency Committee issued recommendations to strengthen disease surveillance at Points of Entry and discourage travel to areas with documented Bundibugyo virus detection.
• The Government of India advised Indian citizens to avoid non-essential travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan.
