The Indian Navy has invited domestic companies to design and manufacture 80-mm aero rockets for its MiG-29K and MiG-29KUB carrier-based fighter jets.
The Expression of Intent (EoI) for the project was issued on May 26 by the Naval Armament Inspectorate (NAI) in Goa.
The MiG-29K/KUB are Russian-origin twin-engine aircraft that serve as the strike force on the aircraft carriers INS Vikramaditya and INS Vikrant.
The 80-mm aero rocket is a dual-purpose munition designed to neutralise armoured targets (tanks and armoured personnel carriers) and unarmoured targets (radar installations, parked aircraft and troop concentrations).
The Navy plans to procure 273 live rockets and 2,400 practice rounds, with a tentative induction timeline of 2026-27.
