National Family Health Survey (NFHS)-6 Fact Sheets released for health and population trends

Key facts

• The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) released the National Family Health Survey (NFHS)-6 Fact Sheets to highlight improvements in health, nutrition, and demographic indicators.
• The NFHS-6 Fact Sheets present findings on 101 major indicators as the first phase of dissemination.
• Sanitation and clean cooking fuel are monitored through Swachh Survekshan Grameen and the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), while mortality and birth registration data are tracked by the Sample Registration System (SRS), Civil Registration System (CRS), and the Census framework.
• Anaemia prevalence estimates will be generated through the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Diet and Biomarkers Survey using venous blood sampling techniques.
• NFHS-6 introduced new indicators including population composition, share of the elderly population, financial inclusion, antenatal care utilisation, vaccination coverage, prevalence of severe diarrhoeal disease, and expanded breastfeeding indicators.
