Tamil Nadu proposed to establish five renewable energy zones in Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, Tirunelveli, Coimbatore, and Madurai under the Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Limited.
The administrative restructuring aims to accelerate battery energy storage system projects and solar projects including PM-KUSUM and PM Rooftop Solar scheme.
The move is part of the state's objective to increase green power generation by 2030, as stated by Energy Resources Minister C T R Nirmal Kumar.
The restructuring follows a directive from Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and will dissolve existing Non-Conventional Energy Sources (NCES) offices in Udumalpet and Tirunelveli.
A separate project implementation and monitoring centre has been created in Chennai to strengthen the operations of the five zones.
