Tamil Nadu (TN) recorded a Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) of 52.3% in higher education according to the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) report for 2023-24.
The state surpassed the 50% enrolment mark for the first time, marking a 3.2% improvement over the previous year.
Out of 68.4 lakh youth aged 18 to 23 in TN, 35.8 lakh were enrolled in various degree, diploma, and certificate programmes.
The GER for female students in the state was 53.1%, while the ratio for male students was 51.6%.
The number of colleges in the state increased by 70 to a total of 2,983 institutions during the 2023-24 period.
Enrolment in Undergraduate (UG) courses in the state increased by one lakh, reaching a total of 25.4 lakh students.
