  • The Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA) launched the Global Biofuel Champion Fellowship (GBCF) to induct 15 early-career researchers as biofuel ambassadors.
  • Each fellow will receive a research grant of up to USD 15,000 and serve as an Ambassador of the GBA for two years to advocate for the global adoption of biofuels.
  • The inaugural award ceremony is scheduled for June 30 at Juniper Hall, India Habitat Centre in New Delhi, with the Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), Dr Neeraj Mittal, as the guest of honour.
  • The 15 fellows were selected by a five-member Jury Committee and an eight-member Mentors Committee from institutions including the University of Sheffield, Imperial College London, and Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras).
  • Launched on September 9, 2023, at the G20 Summit in New Delhi, the GBA consists of 34 member countries and 14 international organisations, with India, Brazil, and the United States as founding members.
