Gujarat Land Compensation Policy: New norms for transmission line corridors

Key facts

• The Department of Energy and Petroleum of the Gujarat government notified new guidelines for land compensation in Right of Way (RoW) corridors and towers for transmission lines.
• A Market Rate Committee (MRC) will be established at the district level to determine market prices using valuers empanelled by the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI).
• The policy is applicable to all new and currently in-progress transmission lines of 66 kV and above within Gujarat.
• Compensation for tower base areas is fixed at 200% of the market value determined by the MRC, including a 1-metre extension on each side of the actual base area.
• RoW Corridor compensation is based on the MRC-determined land value: 30% for rural areas, 40% for municipalities and nagar panchayats, 45% for other urban planning areas, and 60% for Municipal Corporations and Metropolitan Areas.
• Crop loss compensation will be based on rates fixed by the Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) and paid as a lumpsum advance via digital payment.
