The Indian Navy will commission the Mahendragiri F38, the sixth indigenous stealth frigate of Project 17A, at Visakhapatnam on 11 July.
The frigate was designed by the Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau and built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in Mumbai.
The warship is named after the Mahendragiri mountain range located in the Eastern Ghats.
The ship is powered by a Combined Diesel or Gas (CODOG) propulsion system and features over 75 per cent indigenous content under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
The vessel is intended to safeguard maritime interests and support India's role as the Preferred Security Partner in the Indian Ocean Region.
