Ministry of Cooperation (MoC) to launch cooperative life insurance company and expand Bharat Taxi to 500 cities

• The Ministry of Cooperation (MoC) announced the establishment of a cooperative life insurance company to strengthen the cooperative movement.
• The Bharat Taxi initiative will be expanded to 500 cities over the next two years.
• The government is establishing the Tribhuvan Sahkari University at Anand in Gujarat to address skill and human resource requirements.
• The MoC is digitising 50,000 Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies (PACS) into e-PACS.
• A memorandum of understanding was signed between Bharatiya Beej Sahakari Samiti Ltd (BBSSL) and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to strengthen seed systems.
• The MoC transferred 135 grain storage godowns with a combined capacity of 75,000 tonnes, inaugurated 85 godowns, and laid the virtual foundation for 47 additional grain storage facilities.
• Groundbreaking was performed for Sahakar Van projects by Amul and the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India (NCCF), and tissue culture facilities of BBSSL at Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh and Jalgaon in Maharashtra.
• India currently has approximately 8.5 lakh cooperative societies with more than 30 crore members.
