Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) Launches Digital Survey of 1.7 Lakh National Highway Bridges

• The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has launched a nationwide initiative to digitally map and assess the condition of bridges and other major structures across India's national highway network.
• A mobile application has been developed under the Indian Bridge Management System (IBMS) to enable field engineers to collect inventory details and carry out condition assessments.
• The system's web-based dashboard will be accessible by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), Border Roads Organisation (BRO), and state Public Works Departments.
• The survey covers nearly 1.7 lakh highway structures exceeding six metres in length, including bridges, flyovers, and culverts, with a completion deadline of September.
• Drone technology may be deployed to inspect difficult-to-access sections of bridges to obtain detailed information without disrupting traffic.
