The Union government has included Srikakulam district (Andhra Pradesh) in the Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagarik (UDAN) scheme.
Under UDAN, 100 new airports are to be developed between 2026 and 2036.
The proposed full-fledged airport will be located in Mandasa mandal of the Uddanam region in Srikakulam district.
The government has recently allocated approximately ₹28,840 crore for the viability gap fund to support developers of airports under UDAN.
The airport is intended to establish Srikakulam as a mini aviation hub by encouraging the growth of ancillary aviation industries.
