Union Cabinet approves Dwarka Tunnel and Kanpur-Kabrai Highway worth ₹14,115 crore

Key facts

• The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved two highway projects with a combined investment of ₹14,114.81 crore.
• A six-lane road tunnel on NH-148AE connecting Shivmurti Interchange on Dwarka Expressway (NH-248BB) with Nelson Mandela Marg in Vasant Kunj will be constructed at a cost of ₹6,969.67 crore under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM).
• A 117.7-km access-controlled greenfield highway between Kanpur and Kabrai in Uttar Pradesh will be built at a cost of ₹7,145.14 crore using the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) (Toll) mode.
• The Kanpur-Kabrai highway is being implemented by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) as part of the Bhopal-Kanpur Economic Corridor under the National Highways (Original) Programme.
• The Kanpur-Kabrai corridor will link NH-34, NH-35, the Bundelkhand Expressway, Kanpur Ring Road, and several state highways, providing access to 16 economic nodes, 9 social nodes, and 10 logistics hubs.
