Uttarakhand has become the sixth state in India to achieve full literacy status under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The state achieved this milestone through the implementation of the Understanding Lifelong Learning for All in Society (ULLAS) programme.
The achievement follows the state meeting adult literacy benchmarks set by the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Union Ministry of Education.
The other five Indian states that have already achieved full literacy status are Mizoram, Goa, Tripura, Himachal Pradesh, and Sikkim.
The literacy rate of Uttarakhand currently stands at over 98 percent following the approval of the proposal by Governor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Gurmeet Singh.
