Assam Launches Nijut Moina and Nijut Babu Scheme Applications; Aims to Cover 10 Lakh Girls and 1.20 Lakh Boys

• Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the application distribution for the Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina Scheme and the Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Babu Scheme on August 6, 2026.
• The Nijut Moina Scheme aims to cover 10 lakh girl students across Assam.
• The Nijut Babu Scheme will cover 1.20 lakh boys, including an additional 70,000 students this year after benefiting 50,000 boys last year.
• Girl students pursuing Polytechnic courses and those in the seventh semester of integrated postgraduate programmes are now eligible under the Nijut Moina Scheme.
• Financial assistance under the Nijut Moina Scheme is higher than under the Nijut Babu Scheme because the former primarily aims to prevent child marriage.
• Eligibility for both schemes requires regular class attendance, discipline, commitment to studies, and good academic conduct.
• Assistance under both schemes is provided only during the college session; students admitted in August will receive payments for August and September on October 10.
• Beneficiaries must submit Aadhaar-linked bank account details and complete e-KYC to receive uninterrupted benefits.
• At the launch event, the Chief Minister also disbursed Rs 15.86 crore via DBT to 793 flood-affected schools and Rs 4.26 crore from CMRF to 21,025 students for educational materials.
