Justices R V Ghuge, M C Tripathi Recommended as Calcutta and Bombay High Court Chief Justices

• The Supreme Court Collegium recommended the elevation of Acting Chief Justice Ravindra V Ghuge of the Bombay High Court as the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court.
• The Collegium also recommended Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi of the Allahabad High Court as the next Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.
• Justice Ghuge was appointed Acting Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court in June 2026, succeeding Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, who was elevated to the Supreme Court.
• Justice Tripathi, if approved, will become the 50th Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, and the second from the Allahabad High Court after Justice D K Upadhyaya.
• Justice Tripathi was born on June 21, 1966, and was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court on September 27, 2013, becoming a permanent judge on April 10, 2015.
• Justice Ghuge was born on July 9, 1966, and was elevated as a judge of the Bombay High Court on June 21, 2013.
• Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty is currently the Acting Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court.
