Ashish Shelar was elected president of the E-Sports Games Federation (ESGF) at the Board Meeting held in New Delhi on August 28, 2026.
He serves as Minister of Electronics, IT, AI and Cultural Affairs in the Government of Maharashtra and as a Board member of the Asian Cricket Council.
His name was proposed by ESGF Founder and Acting President Nandan Jha and Chairperson Ashok Dhyanchand, and the proposal was seconded by Secretary General Gursharan Singh.
The proposal received unanimous support from all members and State Representatives present at the meeting.
Shelar said around 600 million people in India are engaged with esports, and the Indian esports team will participate in the Asian Games in Japan in September 2026.
