• India and Canada held annual Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) in New Delhi on September 2, 2026.
• The Indian delegation was led by MEA Secretary (East) Rudrendra Tandon, while Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arun Thangaraj headed the Canadian team from Global Affairs Canada.
• The talks took place at Hyderabad House in New Delhi.
• Both sides reviewed progress in institutional mechanisms covering energy, critical minerals, science and technology, education, security and defence cooperation, culture, people-to-people ties, and consular matters.
• India and Canada reiterated their commitment to conclude Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) negotiations before end of 2026, aiming to more than double bilateral trade to CAD 70 billion/INR 4.65 lakh crore by 2030.
• Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed the India-Canada Business Roundtable in Toronto, highlighting opportunities for deeper financial-sector cooperation and long-term investment partnerships.
