India and Uzbekistan elevate ties to comprehensive strategic partnership, set $5 billion trade target

• India and Uzbekistan upgraded their bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership during PM Modi's visit to Tashkent.
• The two countries set an annual bilateral trade target of $5 billion by 2030.
• India will receive long-term uranium supply from Uzbekistan, a major regional producer and exporter.
• Both sides agreed to establish a foreign minister-level coordination council to guide the partnership.
• India and Uzbekistan signed 11 MoUs covering culture, education, mining, Ayurveda, tourism, and restoration of Buddhist sites.
• The leaders endorsed growing defence cooperation, including regular exchanges, capacity-building, and joint activities.
• Uzbekistan supported India's candidature for permanent membership of the UN Security Council, and both called for UN reforms.
• A letter of intent was signed for conservation of ancient Buddhist sites Fayaz Tepa and Kara Tepa in Termez.
• India granted $1 million for afforestation in the Aral Sea region.
• An MoU was signed for cooperation in Ayurveda and other traditional medicine systems.
