Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Launches FQCI Quantum Computing Hub under National Quantum Mission

• The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has launched the Foundation for QC Innovation (FQCI), a not-for-profit entity serving as the Quantum Computing Thematic Hub under the National Quantum Mission.
• The FQCI is one of four thematic hubs established nationwide to bridge academic research and industrial application in quantum technologies.
• The hub is investigating multiple technological pathways, including superconducting circuits, light particles, semiconductor devices, neutral atoms, and trapped ions.
• The FQCI is prioritizing the development of specialized quantum algorithms and establishing shared high-end facilities for manufacturing, testing, and characterizing quantum devices.
• Shankar Kumar Selvaraja, professor at the Centre for Nano Science and Engineering at IISc, serves as the project director of FQCI.
• The initiative has introduced structured programs—QC Rise, QC Bridge, QC Leap, QC Accel, and QC Quest—to support student research, internships, and industry-academia partnerships, aiming to reduce India's dependence on overseas technology.
