The Ministry of Railways approved the deployment of Kavach Version 4.0 on 712 route kilometres of Moradabad Division in Northern Railway at a total cost of ₹170 crore.
Kavach is an indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system designed to improve operational safety.
Kavach helps prevent Signal Passing at Danger (SPAD), automatically applies brakes when required, regulates train speed in critical situations, and reduces the risk of collisions.
As of July 31, 2026, Indian Railways had commissioned Kavach Version 4.0 across 2,633 route kilometres.
Trackside Kavach implementation has been taken up across 21,794 route kilometres, covering the Golden Quadrilateral, Golden Diagonal, High Density Network and other identified sections.
Indian Railways spent ₹1,14,973 crore by July 2026 against a total budget grant of ₹2,93,030 crore for the 2026-27 financial year.
