Indore Metro Priority Corridor-2 Inaugurated

Key facts

• Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav inaugurated Indore Metro Priority Corridor-2 on 5 September at the Brilliant Convention Centre in Vijay Nagar.
• Regular passenger services on the expanded Gandhi Nagar-Malviya Nagar Square corridor began.
• The operational network expanded from approximately 6 km to 17 km, with the extended corridor covering 16 stations.
• Metro trains run every 15 minutes with more than 80 trips scheduled daily; the first train departs at 9 am and the last at 7 pm.
• The initial 6 km priority section entered operations on 31 May 2025 and was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi via video conferencing.
• The new 11 km extension runs from Super Corridor-3 to Malviya Nagar Chauraha, also known as Radisson Square.
• The newly inaugurated phase-I (Reach-II) of approximately 11 km comprising 11 stations was developed at an estimated cost of Rs 2,850 crore.
• With this expansion, the Indore Metro network now has 16 operational stations covering approximately 17 km, with a cumulative project cost of about Rs 4,370 crore.
• The Asian Development Bank approved a $190 million loan to support an 8.62 km underground metro line with seven stations connecting congested areas to the airport.
• Chief Minister Yadav said the second phase marked the metro's gradual movement from outskirts towards populated parts, with the planned Yellow Line continuing beyond Malviya Nagar towards Shaheed Bagicha, Khajrana Chauraha, Bengali Chauraha, Patrakar Colony and Palasia before reaching the railway station.
• The corridor received approval from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety in March 2026.
