Madhya Pradesh scraps two-child rule for government job eligibility

• Chief Minister Mohan Yadav ordered the withdrawal of a draft provision in the proposed civil services rules that limited government job eligibility to a maximum of two children.
• The Chief Minister directed the General Administration Department (GAD) to immediately remove the draft from the official portal.
• A provision introduced by the GAD in 2001 had disqualified candidates with more than two living children from direct recruitment and departmental appointments.
• Under the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services (general conditions of service) Rules, 1961, candidates with more than two living children on or after January 26, 2001, were ineligible for government service.
• The Madhya Pradesh Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1965, previously treated having more than two children as misconduct for serving government employees.
