The Centre is establishing mega leather, footwear and accessories clusters in Muzaffarpur (Bihar), Sitapur (Madhya Pradesh), Raigad district (Maharashtra), and Ranipet (Tamil Nadu).
The cumulative investment for these clusters is ₹898 crore, and they have attracted investments of ₹2,000 crore so far.
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) is overseeing these clusters to boost exports beyond traditional hubs in Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.
The cluster at Panapakkam in Ranipet (Tamil Nadu) spans 290 acres and is being established with Central government assistance of ₹125 crore.
