Central Vista Area renamed to Kartavya Bhawan Area on July 13, 2026

Key facts

• Union Housing and Urban Affairs (HUA) Minister Manohar Lal announced that the Central Vista redevelopment area will now be referred to as the Kartavya Bhawan Complex or Kartavya Bhawan Area.
• The Kartavya Bhawan Area comprises multiple Kartavya Bhawans, Kartavya Marg, and any future government buildings in the zone.
• The announcement was made during the foundation day of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD).
• The government plans to construct 10 buildings under the Common Central Secretariat to house ministries, of which three have been completed.
• In 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi renamed Rajpath, the two-kilometre stretch from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate, as Kartavya Path.
• The new complex housing the Prime Minister's Office, Cabinet Secretariat, and the office of the National Security Advisor is named Seva Teerth.
