- The Uttar Pradesh cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, approved the renaming of Jalalabad town in Shahjahanpur district as Parshurampuri.
- The existing Jalalabad Nagar Palika Parishad has been renamed as Parshurampuri Nagar Palika Parishad.
- The renaming proposal received approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in August 2025.
- The move is based on the belief that the town is the birthplace of Lord Parshuram, the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu.
- Jalalabad was established during the Mughal period and derived its name from Emperor Akbar, also known as Jalal-ud-din Muhammad Akbar.
