DoT Signs MoU with TSDSI to Strengthen India’s Global Telecom Standards Ecosystem

Key facts

• The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Telecommunications Standards Development Society of India (TSDSI) to boost India's participation in global telecom standards bodies like 3GPP, ITU, and oneM2M.
• Under the Technology Development and Investment Promotion (TDIP) scheme, DPIIT-recognized startups and MSMEs with an annual turnover up to ₹10 crore will receive up to 98% subsidy on TSDSI membership fees.
• MSMEs with turnover between ₹10 crore and ₹500 crore will get up to 80% support on TSDSI membership fees, and similar assistance will be provided for 3GPP Individual Membership fees to enable direct participation in 5G Advanced and 6G standardization.
• Startups and MSMEs will receive travel assistance of up to 80% of eligible expenditure, capped at ₹5 lakh per person per international meeting, to encourage submission of Indian Technical Contributions in global forums.
• The MoU includes support for hosting international standards meetings such as 3GPP and oneM2M sessions in India, aiming to position the country as a preferred destination for telecom standardization discussions.
• The TDIP scheme, with an outlay of ₹203 crore for 2026–31, is a key enabler of the Bharat 6G Mission's vision to make India a leading contributor to future telecom standards.
