Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) Releases Quarterly Update of PAIMANA Dashboard to Track 165 Infrastructure Indicators

Key facts

• The dashboard now tracks 165 indicators across six sub-sectors: Civil Aviation (31), Roads (8), Power (14), Ports, Shipping & Waterways (62), Telecommunications (13), and Railways (37).
• 44 new indicators were added in the latest update, along with sector-wise narratives for better interpretation.
• Civil Aviation cargo movement in April 2026 was 98,920.10 tonnes, up 11.8% year-on-year, and the number of aerodromes increased to 165 (up 81 since 2014).
• Telecommunications mobile data consumption in FY 2025-26 reached 285,376 petabytes, up 24.7% year-on-year, and telephone subscribers rose to 133.06 crore with tele-density at 93.26%.
• Road Transport and Highways constructed 9,360 km of National Highways in FY 2025-26, and electronic toll collection transactions rose to ₹88 crores (up 39.7% year-on-year) in FY 2026-27 up to May.
• Ports, Shipping & Waterways saw coastal cargo handling at major ports increase 3.09% year-on-year to 196,808.7 thousand tonnes, and sea-borne trade nearly doubled from 76 million tonnes in 2015 to 145 million tonnes in 2023.
• Railways reported average carrying capacity of Broad Gauge wagons at a record 64.0 tonnes per wagon in 2024-25, and average daily passengers carried reached 19.98 million (up 5.8% year-on-year).
• Power sector energy storage requirements are projected to rise from 87 GWh in 2027-28 to 888 GWh by 2035-36, with Pumped Storage Plant capacity expected at 94 GW and Battery Energy Storage System capacity at 80 GW by 2035-36.
• The next quarterly update of the PAIMANA Dashboard is scheduled for October 16, 2026.
