National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) Launches Electronic Gold Receipts Backed by SEBI-Regulated Vaults

Key Updates:

  • The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) introduced Electronic Gold Receipts (EGRs) in May 2026.
  • EGRs are exchange-traded securities representing ownership of physical gold stored in SEBI-regulated vaults.
  • EGRs are available in two purity standards: 999 (99.9% pure) and 995 (99.5% pure).
  • Each purity category offers six denominations: 10 mg, 100 mg, 1 g, 10 g, 100 g, and 1 kg.
  • EGRs can be traded from Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. (or 11:55 p.m. during US daylight saving time).
  • EGRs follow a T+1 settlement cycle with the receipts credited to the buyer's demat account the next trading day.
  • No GST is applicable on EGR trading, but a 3% GST is levied on physical delivery of gold.

  • Ports, Shipping & Waterways saw coastal cargo handling at major ports increase 3.09% year-on-year to 196,808.7 thousand tonnes, and sea-borne trade nearly doubled from 76 million tonnes in 2015 to 145 million tonnes in 2023.
  • Railways reported average carrying capacity of Broad Gauge wagons at a record 64.0 tonnes per wagon in 2024-25, and average daily passengers carried reached 19.98 million (up 5.8% year-on-year).
  • Power sector energy storage requirements are projected to rise from 87 GWh in 2027-28 to 888 GWh by 2035-36, with Pumped Storage Plant capacity expected at 94 GW and Battery Energy Storage System capacity at 80 GW by 2035-36.
  • The next quarterly update of the PAIMANA Dashboard is scheduled for October 16, 2026.
