Gujarat Launches ₹2.94 Crore Plastic Waste Management Project at Nalsarovar

• The Gujarat Forest Department rolled out a plastic waste management project around Nalsarovar Bird Sanctuary with an outlay of ₹2.94 crore.
• The project is approved under the Project for Eco-Restoration in Gujarat (PERG) with support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
• The department will purchase plastic waste collected by villagers and process it at a dedicated collection centre.
• A Plastic Waste Collection Centre has been established at Kayla village in Viramgam taluka, Ahmedabad district.
• The programme covers villages including Vekariya, Kayla, Shahpur, Dharji and Meni in Ahmedabad district, and Nani Kathechi and Ranagadh in Surendranagar district.
• The Forest Department will install waste collection bins and appoint local volunteers called 'Swachhta Praharis' to encourage waste segregation.
• The initiative aims to reduce plastic entering Nalsarovar and generate employment for local residents.
