Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth launched the indigenously developed Xtreme Weather Grade (XWG) Diesel on July 31, 2026, in New Delhi.
The fuel was jointly developed by the Indian Army and Oil Marketing Companies.
XWG Diesel remains effective at temperatures as low as minus 42 degrees Celsius, overcoming the problem of conventional diesel thickening and clogging fuel filters.
The fuel is compliant with BS-VI standards and IS 1460:2025 specifications and can be used in existing vehicle fleets without engine modification or re-homologation.
The development is a step towards Atmanirbhar Bharat and also has civilian applications in high-altitude and severe winter regions.
