The Madhya Pradesh archaeology department has collected a rare record of the 1857 mutiny against the British signed by rebel Tatya Tope.
The collection is part of India’s Gyan Bharatam Mission, under which citizens were asked to submit rare manuscripts for preservation and digitisation.
Madhya Pradesh received 3.4 million submissions, the highest for any state, with 1.2 million verified.
The department also received an original painting of the Queen of Jhansi, commissioned by her and dating back to 1853.
Other finds include an 18th-century compendium listing 62 rulers of undivided India, a 16th-century manuscript of Rasikpriya, and one of the oldest maps of Earth in circular format.
