  • Neoloboptera peninsularis is characterised by a yellowish-brown glossy body, fully developed wings, asymmetrical cerci, and a whip-like male genital component.
  • Prior to this finding, only two species within the genus Neoloboptera had been documented in India, with the last one described in 1995.
  • The research team, led by Shabnam Ansari and Dr K P Dinesh, employed an integrative taxonomic approach combining morphological analysis with modern DNA sequencing.
  • The study provides the first DNA barcode for the genus, addressing the Darwinian shortfall regarding evolutionary relationships.

Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary hosts second Indian Bison Fest from March 8 (Start of March)
  • The Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary will host the second edition of the two-day Indian Bison Fest on March 8 at Zeropoint.
  • The Hirakud Wildlife Division organises the festival to celebrate the Indian bison, locally called Gayala, and its rising numbers in the Debrigarh-Hirakud landscape.
  • The 2026 programme adds night camping, making it a two-day immersive experience inside the sanctuary.

India ranks among world’s most optimistic nations in Ipsos March 2026 survey
