  • Elbers had been appointed IndiGo CEO in September 2022 after Ronojoy Dutta’s tenure from 2019 to 2022.

  • A.V. Girija Kumar, former Chairman and Managing Director of Oriental Insurance Company Ltd., was appointed Chairman of the reconstituted Reinsurance Advisory Committee (RAC) by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).
  • The reconstituted RAC includes Praveen Vashishta, former CEO and Managing Director of Howden Insurance Brokers India Pvt. Ltd.; Roopam Asthana, former CEO of Liberty General Insurance; and T.L. Alamelu, former Whole-Time Member of IRDAI.
  • The committee has been constituted for a tenure of three years under Section 101B of the Insurance Act, 1938.

Amol Palekar to be Honoured with Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META) Lifetime Achievement Award 2026

  • The WaSH Warriors were nominated by States and Union Territories under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) to represent rural households, marginalised communities, and Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) majority villages.

Ministry of Power (MoP) targets 143 GW inter-regional transmission capacity by 2027

  • Union Minister of State for Power Shripad Naik informed the Rajya Sabha that India's inter-regional transmission capacity is set to reach 143 GW by 2027 and 168 GW by 2032.
  • The inter-regional transmission capacity of the National Grid stood at 120 GW as of December 2025.
  • The expansion of the National Grid is aimed at meeting a projected peak electricity demand of 388 GW by 2032.
  • Under the National Electricity Plan (NEP) Volume II Transmission, the transmission network of 220 kV and above is planned to expand to 6.48 lakh ckm by 2032.
  • The transformation capacity is projected to increase to 2,345 Giga Volt Ampere (GVA) by 2032.

Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) launches India Grids of the Future Accelerator with $25 million funding (End of February)
  • The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) launched the India Grids of the Future Accelerator at Mumbai Climate Week 2026 to modernise power distribution and integrate renewable energy.
  • The initiative is supported by the All India DISCOM Association (AIDA), International Solar Alliance (ISA), and designated Champion Utilities.
  • GEAPP will deploy up to $25 million by 2028, aiming to unlock a total of $100 million by 2030 to support the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision of the Government of India.

  • Tourist permits for Lachen and Gurudongmar Lake in North Sikkim resumed from 9 March 2026.
  • Permits had been suspended after the South Lhonak glacial lake outburst flood in October 2023 damaged roads and bridges across North Sikkim.
  • Applications for permits can be submitted through the district collectorate in Mangan or authorised tour operators as per government guidelines.
  • Mangan District Collector Anant Jain confirmed that permits would be issued from Monday.
  • A newly constructed 400-foot Bailey suspension bridge over the Taram Chu on the Chungthang-Lachen road has a load capacity of 12 tonnes and allows only one light vehicle at a time.

Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) extends Demwe Lower hydel project clearance till 2037 (Mid of February)
  • The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has extended the environmental clearance (EC) for the 1,750 MW Demwe Lower Project in Arunachal Pradesh until 2037.
  • The Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) on river valley and hydroelectric projects granted the 11-year extension by treating time lost to litigation as a zero period.
  • The project is located on the Lohit River across the Anjaw and Lohit districts and involves the construction of a 162.12-metre-tall concrete gravity dam.
  • Greenko Demwe Power Limited (GDPL), part of the Greenko Group, is the current developer after the original developer, Athena Demwe Power Ltd, entered insolvency proceedings.
  • The project requires the diversion of 1,416 hectares of forest land and will result in the submergence of 1,589.97 hectares.
  • The Lohit basin and Kamlang Tiger Reserve, situated upstream of the project, are identified as crucial habitats for the critically endangered White-Bellied Heron.

  • The 154.635-km NH-160A project in Maharashtra will be executed under Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).
  • In Gujarat, the CCEA approved four-laning of the 107.67-km Dhamasiya-Bitada/Movi and Nasarpore-Malotha sections of National Highway-56 at a cost of Rs 4,583.64 crore.

SHINE Module launched to streamline sexual harassment complaints for female railway employees

  • The Ministry of Railways (MoR) will launch the Sexual Harassment Incident Notification for Empowerment (SHINE) module on 8 March, coinciding with International Women's Day.
  • The SHINE module is integrated into the Human Resource Management System (HRMS) application to allow female employees to record workplace-related sexual harassment complaints directly.
  • The portal enables lodging complaints on behalf of female employees, outside visitors, contractual workers, and students.
  • Complaints submitted through the module will be received online by the nominated Internal Complaint (IC) Committee for expeditious and confidential redressal.
  • Female employees can access the SHINE module through the Employees Self Service feature within the HRMS portal.

  • Launched on 19 February 2019, the initiative aims to democratise public procurement for startups, women entrepreneurs, youth, Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs), and Self Help Groups (SHGs).
  • The initiative focuses on addressing three critical challenges for emerging enterprises: access to markets, access to finance, and access to value addition.
  • Cumulative order values for women entrepreneurs on GeM rose from ₹1,265.62 crore in FY 2018–19 to ₹83,323 crore by FY 2025–26.
  • Order volumes for women-led enterprises increased from 1,01,530 to 44,48,894 over the seven-year period.

Nagauri Pan Methi granted Patent under PPVFRA as Community Farmers' Variety

  • The Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers' Rights Authority (PPVFRA) formally granted a patent to Nagauri Pan Methi (Trigonella corniculata L.) under the community farmers' variety category.
  • The patent registration was published in the February 2026 issue of the Plant Variety Journal, conferring statutory ownership and legal rights to the farming community of Nagaur district, Rajasthan.
  • The community of farmers, represented by women farmer Geeta Devi, Pradhan of Panchayat Samiti Mundwa, is now the legally recognised custodian and rights holder of the variety.
  • Nagauri Methi is cultivated exclusively on more than 7,000 hectares in the Rajasthan regions of Mundwa, Nagaur, Merta City, Jayal, Degana, and Khinvsar.
  • During the 2024–25 season, farmers produced approximately 30,000 metric tonnes of dried leaves, generating a total income of around ₹450 crore.
  • The South Asia Biotechnology Centre (SABC) and the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) under the Biotech Kisan Hub provided scientific and field-level evidence for the registration.
  • The registration aims to protect farmers against biopiracy and is a primary step towards securing a Geographical Indication (GI) tag and food safety standards from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

Assam Government Launches Mission Basundhara 3.0 for Land Patta Distribution (Start of March)

  • A total of 1,06,905 beneficiaries across Assam received land pattas during the launch, with 44,700 individuals belonging to the Dhemaji district.

FATF adds Kuwait and Papua New Guinea to increased monitoring list

  • Iran and DPRK continue to be subject to countermeasures, while Myanmar remains under enhanced due diligence requirements since its inclusion in October 2022.

  • Indonesia has joined President Donald Trump's Board of Peace, announced last month, which has a mandate from the United Nations Security Council to establish an International Stabilization Force (ISF) to secure border areas in Gaza and ensure demilitarisation including disarmament of Hamas.
