Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) releases FDI equity inflow data for April-December FY26

- Computer Software & Hardware was the most attractive sector with $10.7 billion (22% share), followed by the Services Sector (Financial, Banking, and R&D) at 18%.
- Maharashtra received the highest state-wise inflows at $15.38 billion, followed by Karnataka at $11.15 billion.

- Investments from entities having any direct or indirect ownership link with citizens or firms from land-bordering nations will have to follow additional reporting requirements under the standard operating procedure prescribed by DPIIT.
- The decision to ease the norms was cleared by the Union Cabinet last week.

- The CCI has extended the deadline for applying for the full-time DG post until May 5, 2026.
- The DG's office is responsible for investigating all contraventions against the Competition Act.
- The DG's office is currently investigating cases involving Indigo Airlines for abuse of dominant position and Google for its practices in digital advertising.
- Amendments made to the Competition Act in 2023 empower the commission to appoint the DG with prior approval from the Centre.
