NHAI partners Reliance Jio to deploy telecom-based highway safety alert system

  • The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) signed an MoU with Reliance Jio to roll-out a telecom network-driven highway safety alert system.
  • Using Jio’s existing 4G and 5G network, travellers receive advance warnings on mobile phones as they approach risk locations such as accident-prone stretches, stray-cattle zones, fog-affected areas and emergency diversions.

India successfully conducts high-speed rocket-sled test of fighter aircraft escape system

  • The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted a high-speed rocket-sled test of a fighter aircraft escape system.
  • The test was conducted at the Rail Track Rocket Sled (RTRS) facility of the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory, Chandigarh.
  • The test validated canopy severance, ejection sequencing, and complete aircrew recovery.
  • The test was conducted in collaboration with the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
  • The complex dynamic test placed 'India in an elite club of nations with advanced in-house escape system testing capability'.
  • Defence minister Rajnath Singh hailed the test as a significant milestone in India’s indigenous defence capability and a step forward towards self-reliance.

  • BrahMos saw first induction into the Indian Navy in 2005, into the Indian Army in 2007 and first successful flight from Indian Air Force’s (IAF) Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter in 2017.
  • The achievement is a testament to India’s commitment to self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
